Theory Test

The theory test, as its name suggests, is a test of your knowledge of the theory of driving including traffic law and road signs as found in The Official Highway Code.

The test is carried out using a touch-screen computer and consists of two parts - the Mutiple Choice questions and the Hazrd Perception test. In order to pass, you must pass both parts of the test at the same sitting.

The Multiple Choice test contains 50 questions. You have 57 mnutes to complete the questions, although extra time may be allocated if you have special needs. (

The Hazard Perception test contains 14 video clips showing various hazards found
in everyday situations on the roads. As each hazard develops, you are required to click the bustton on the mouse. (Be careful not to click repeatedly or "rhythmically" though, as this is reagrded as cheating!) Each clip contains 1 hazard, and one clip will contain 2. Each hazard has a maximum score of 5 which is dependant on your reaction time clicking the mouse.

The pass mark for the Hazard Perception test is 44 out of 75.

Once you have passed, you are eligible to apply for your practical test.
